The Netherlands as a key player in the global hydrogen market

The success of green hydrogen hinges on international cooperation. Only by cooperating closely on imports, science and business, are countries able to achieve their own and European hydrogen targets. GroenvermogenNL plays a supporting and driving role in international cooperation.

By seeking collaborations with foreign companies and research institutions, GroenvermogenNL can increase the impact of its projects and contribute to the global hydrogen economy. GroenvermogenNL focuses on taking advantage of international cooperation to support the Dutch hydrogen sector, whether it’s the Netherlands’ import readiness or boosting innovation through cross-border cooperation.

Specifically, this means that GroenvermogenNL:

  • promotes international cooperation by facilitating international study trips, coordinating relationships between Dutch and foreign companies, and working on the Netherlands’ import readiness.
  • contributes to matching Dutch SMEs with international partners, leading to the formation of new consortia that can jointly apply for subsidies.
  • contributes to positioning the Netherlands as a key player in the global hydrogen market by actively participating in international networks and conferences.

3x support for international cooperation

GroenvermogenNL works in three ways to promote international cooperation in green hydrogen.

1. Accelerating hydrogen import

The cost of producing green hydrogen is much lower in certain regions compared to others. As a result, import is crucial for countries like the Netherlands, where local production is insufficient to meet their strategic goals. GroenvermogenNL supports the preparation of Dutch ports for hydrogen import to reduce costs and make green hydrogen more accessible. Affordable hydrogen is a crucial element for GroenvermogenNL projects.

2. Stimulating (scientific) hydrogen innovations through cross-border collaboration

GroenvermogenNL stimulates cross-border collaboration between entrepreneurs and scientists. International partnerships foster innovation by bringing together different perspectives and expertise. New markets, technologies, and business models inspire entrepreneurs, helping to drive the hydrogen economy forward. In the scientific field, international collaboration facilitates the sharing of knowledge and resources, accelerating technological breakthroughs that no single country could achieve alone.. Therefore, GroenvermogenNL not only supports the national hydrogen community but also promotes connections with international parties. The focus is primarily on collaboration with Belgium and Germany.

3. GroenvermogenNL as a reinforcer of the international position of the Dutch (SME) manufacturing industry

By stimulating innovation and international collaboration, the Dutch manufacturing industry can be further developed, to the benefit of the hydrogen economy. This contributes to economic growth and employment. GroenvermogenNL invests in research and expertise within SMEs and encourages them to share it internationally. By making tangible results visible internationally, innovation can attract attention to the Netherlands and its entrepreneurs. Furthermore, successful innovations can attract new talent from abroad.
