Duwaal: from North Holland to Egypt
The Duwaal project, an initiative of HYGRO in collaboration with Ohmium and SoluForce, is developing a hydrogen value chain in North Holland. In cooperation with SoluForce and DEBCO, the Suez Canal Economic Zone in Egypt was explored to assess how Duwaal can serve as a blueprint for an international value chain in which wind and solar energy are directly converted into green hydrogen for applications in mobility and construction through electrolysis. This builds on the first phase of Duwaal in the Wieringermeer, supported by €11.6 million in subsidy from GroenvermogenNL. A 2.5 MW electrolyser and a network of production sites and end users in mobility and construction are being further developed there.
This article appeared in the magazine GVNL Perspective. With the magazine GVNL Perspective, we make visible how the hydrogen transition is developing from ambition to implementation. In this online series, we share articles from the first issue of GVNL Perspective, featuring expert insights, inspiring stories from pioneers and examples of innovation that show how the Netherlands is realising the promise of green hydrogen step by step, driven by a shared determination to move forward.
