Transport and storage of hydrogen phase 2

New R&D Call: €13 million subsidy for Theme - Hydrogen Transport and Storage phase 2 On February 3, 2026, GroenvermogenNL will launch a new R&D call for the theme Transport and Storage of Hydrogen – phase 2. A subsidy of €13 million is available for this theme. The national consortium will work on the program Hydrogen and Hydrogen Carriers: import, conversion, transport, and storage.

Goal

To fully capitalize on the Netherlands’ potential as a supplier to the Northwest European hydrogen market, a well-developed infrastructure for the import, conversion, transport and storage of hydrogen and hydrogen carriers is essential.

Activities

The intended research and innovation programme for GroenvermogenNL Work Package 2 phase provides three directions:
• Import, transport and storage of liquid hydrogen (LH₂).
• Import, conversion, transport and storage of hydrogen carriers, such as: Ammonia, Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carriers (LOHC) and other hydrogen carriers
• Development and optimization of port infrastructure, supply chains and conversion hubs.
