HyCARB officially launched: watch the film

With a kick-off event at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht, the collaboration within HyCARB has officially begun. More than 100 participants from partnering knowledge institutions and companies came together around a shared ambition: advancing the sustainable and clean production of carbon-based chemicals.

Companies and knowledge institutions

A consortium of 17 knowledge organisations and 28 companies is working within HyCARB on research into sustainable and cost-effective innovations. According to GroenvermogenNL programme manager R&D Carol Xiao, this broad collaboration is essential. “It enables us to work on the next phase of the carbon economy and implement it in the Netherlands.”

Start of collaboration

The kick-off in Utrecht marked the first important step in building collaboration within the consortium. “It is a moment to celebrate the start of HyCARB, but also the fact that all these outstanding researchers, start-ups and large companies are committed to contributing to renewable chemistry,” says Marta Costa Figueiredo, technical project coordinator at Eindhoven University of Technology.

A new generation

Bert Weckhuysen of Utrecht University is also involved as a technical project coordinator for HyCARB. He highlights two key outcomes he hopes to see from the five-year project. “It is about breakthroughs that enable the conversion of clean electrons and hydrogen into valuable products. But also about educating a new generation of scientists who will truly make a difference.”
