In March, more than 40 representatives from knowledge institutions and the corporate world participated in workshops for Work Package 2 in GroenvermogenNL’s R&D program. This was the first time this approach has been adopted for a grant application. And it proved to be a success. The participants laid solid groundwork for a project proposal focussing on the transport and storage of green hydrogen.

In December 2022, more than 30 knowledge institutions and companies registered for Work Package 2. As part of this work package, they are focussing on innovative solutions for the transport and storage of green hydrogen. The parties aim to form a consortium in order to submit a project proposal by 23 May at the latest. The proposal has the potential to attract more than €14 million in funding.

Joint project proposal

There were two workshops programmed in March. Representatives from registered knowledge institutions and the corporate world worked intensively on a draft project proposal. They also laid the groundwork for the consortium that will also implement the proposal. This joint approach to working on a project proposal and strategy makes it more likely to achieve a successful proposal than it would be if individual parties or small consortia worked individually on their own proposals.

Successful new initiative

The joint workshops represent a new initiative for GroenvermogenNL and turn out to have been successful. The participants demonstrated real effort and enthusiasm in tackling the challenge of transport and storage of green hydrogen. They have laid the groundwork for a project proposal together with an approximate schedule. The parties also expressed their intention to implement the project.

Grant application in May

The project plan includes six different ‘tracks’ that the parties intend to develop further: upscaling, infrastructure, storage, offshore storage, roadmap, and transport and safety. This will form the basis for a grant application in the weeks ahead. The Dutch Research Council (NWO) will assess the application in terms of various criteria, such as scientific quality, links with previously formulated objectives, and the quality of the consortium envisaged.

GroenvermogenNL: accelerating the use of green hydrogen

GroenvermogenNL is a National Growth Fund (Nationaal Groeifonds) programme. It aims to promote and accelerate the use of green hydrogen in Dutch industry by facilitating R&D, pilot projects, demonstrations, and the Human Capital Agenda. A total budget of €838 million has been set aside for this until 2028.
