Successful green hydrogen projects
New-generation hydrogen tanks for heavy-duty mobility
With DEI+ funding, ENVALIOR, Alformet and Westport Fuel Systems develop new tank technology and prototypes to store and transport hydrogen safely, efficiently and sustainably, beyond current type 4 tanks for 350–700 bar gas.
SwitcH2: Preparatory Environmental Study into Green Ammonia
The Netherlands needs to accelerate its energy transition if it wishes to achieve European climate objectives. One of the ways in which this could be accomplished is by increasing the availability of green hydrogen and/or green energy carriers in the shape of green ammonia. SwitcH2 is conducting preparatory (environmental)studies for a demo project that proposes a floating production, storage and transshipment platform for ammonia.
HySUCCESS: researching the level of support for green hydrogen
The transition to a future with large-scale use of green hydrogen not only requires technical innovation. Social support for green hydrogen and a favorable economic and regulatory environment are essential for such a transition.
HyPRO: research into risks and cost reduction
R&D | €34.5 million HyPRO provides a platform for research focused on making hydrogen production more sustainable, by advancing electrolysis technology and plasma technology. Objective: to reduce the cost of green hydrogen and scale up production.
TANDEM: Towards Acceleration aNd Demonstration of E-Methanol
R&D | €3.9 million (Demonstration Energy Innovation (DEI+) funding) TANDEM is developing a 1 MW Balance of Plant E-methanol system. Objective: to deliver an E-methanol system that harnesses biogenic CO₂ produced on a decentralised basis, as well as locally generated renewable energy.
H2Plein by XINTC: enabling efficient and renewable hydrogen production
Pilots & demonstrations | €1.7 million (DEI+) Using H2Plein, XINTC is constructing a comprehensive electrolyser system, connected to an existing solar farm that is already operational. Objective: to use the energy output of this solar farm to generate hydrogen for use in mobility.
HyUSE: research into the direct use of hydrogen
R&D | €16.5 million HyUSE provides a platform for research into the direct use of hydrogen. Objective: to investigate the feasibility of adopting hydrogen as a fuel for industrial use, heavy transport, and local energy systems in the future.
HyTROS: applied research into transport and storage
R&D | €14 million HyTROS provides a platform for applied research into the transport and storage of hydrogen, and drives further development. Objective: to accelerate the scaling up of green hydrogen in the Netherlands.
